Meeting the Myceloids
A delegation from The Gallant Horde is sent to meet the queen of the myceloids and create an alliance so their members can move safely in the forest. But what she asks of them may be more than they can stomach…
We meet a brand new character in this episode: Effie, a halfling rogue who embodies poor impulse control. Joining Effie on this mission are Bergamot, Dalia, Pete, Steeve and Walden Booters. The group is tasked with meeting the myceloids of the forest - Sprout's family.
The team are told that Sprout's family is less excited by people than he is, and are sent to meet Queen Reishi, the queen of the myceloids. Pete decides to lead the party through the forest and along the way, Bergamot picks some flowers. Effie and Steeve discover they're going to be fast friends and sing a little song about frogs.
When they come to a river, Effie takes a rope across the river, successfully skipping across the rocks. Dalia, however, is not so lucky and falls in, taking a lot of cold damage over several rounds. Steeve tries to freeze part of the river to help, but instead the block just goes with the rapids. Pete, Bergamot and Walden toss a rope to Dalia to save her.
The party eventually makes it across with the help of ropes from Walden and Effie. They come across a pond that should be frozen. But it's not. Effie discovers the water moves in a weird way. She's convinced there are mermaid ghosts in the water. But the party becomes aware of wispy white silver essences.
They decide to move on and find the Grove and Sprout introduces the party to his mother, Queen Reishi. They are given a feast by the Queen of rancid food.
The first course is “Slightly Ripened Fruit”. Effie, Steeve and Pete found it to be a bit gross, but swallowed it down, and took a little bit of poison damage while Bergamot, Dalia and Walden ate it just fine.
The second course, “Softened Veggies”, went down a bit easier for the party, but Bergamot and Dalia struggled again, taking more poison damage.
Course three was called “Bark Mulch”, a beverage palate cleanser. Dalia, Steeve and Effie took it in their stride. Pete, Bergamot and Walden, however, took even more damage.
Then they brought out “Fruits of the Fallen”, the highest cuisine the Myceloids could offer - a bright purple mushroom almost glowing. Steeve and Walden successfully ate the vile tasting mushroom. The rest of the party continued to take more damage.
Dessert, an optional course. All but Pete chose to partake. Bergamot successfully makes her save. Steeve and Dalia swallowed it, but it didn't taste too great, but they only take a little bit of damage. Walden and Effie, however, do not do so well. Walden vomits on the spot, much to the delight of the myceloids. Effie goes fully unconscious, but Queen Reishi brings her back to consciousness and heals her, revealing this was a game all along to test them.
A feast of real food is brought for the party. Steeve and Effie discuss magic mushrooms, and the Queen advises them in jest that those are their babies. Steeve feels mortified, but Effie's in on the joke. Walden introduces his familiar, Bob the Skull, to the party and the myceloids and describes him as an asshole, but very helpful.
After the successful meeting, the party returns back to the Dancing Anvil.
