Stump grew up in a swampy area. He doesn’t remember his mother very well as she died when he was young. His father was a farm hand for a nearby ranch. He was raised to value hard work and made to grow up fast. He soon found himself needing an outlet for much of his frustration. Exploring his home swamp he began fighting, rather than running from, the various gators, wild cats, and aggressive bandits that threatened him on his walks.
Stump discovered his love of cooking while visiting town one day and seeing a foreign “chef” at the tavern. It looked like the same food he’d eaten before but with different ingredients and new flavors. After the chef left town, Stump began tasting the various plants and animals around him that he could try. He began volunteering to cook for the farm hands on nights with big jobs that needed doing. At some point, Stump learned about dragons. He marveled at how strong and loyal they can be and decided he would do his best to live up to that standard. He spent the next several years moving from farm to farm as seasons changed and farms grew or shrunk. When his father died of old age, he decided to explore further away and see what else the world had to offer: new foods, tastes, and experiences.
On his travels, he came across Ms Gertrude’s family restaurant and after eating there and enjoying the atmosphere, Stump decided to ask for a job. Since then Stump has been a constant and loyal companion to Gertrude and her family while serving his cooking and exploring new foods. When Gertrude left to find her son, Stump stayed behind long enough to find good replacement for himself before following. He joined the Horde to protect Gertrude and plans to stay as long as she does.
