Nix was born into a farming family. Agriculture, however, seemed exceedingly boring to him. His passion lay with machines, automatons, tinkering. He built gizmos and gadgets by the dozen, quality of life improvements, or even ways for him to be as lazy as possible. Many hours and energy were spent in the name of laziness. School did not really help with this, he was too smart for his own good and was more focused on whatever he could build after classes than the classes themselves. But his keen mind allowed him to have good grades, which also led to many mean kids pinning him as the quintessential "nerd", with all the bullying and the taunting that usually accompanies this. He did not care. They were too dumb to worry about. His tormentors were mere inconveniences, as painful as they could be sometimes. The bullies he could not stand however were the ones picking on his sister, Loralai. She was always a bit odd; her obsession with death got her labelled as "creepy", which made her another target for mean kids. And this, Nix could not accept. He always tried to defend her, even though he was far too physically weak to do so. He tried his best to defend her, failing miserably. He felt too weak, and his tinkering started to become more and more focused on fixing that. He began to build armor that was supposed to protect him but he was not strong enough to don it.
Loralai's dealing with death magic started to worry even her brother. He loved her with all his heart, but deep inside he was also scared of her. Scared for her. He needed to become stronger. He experimented with more and more passion as this feeling grew, until one day an accident happened, and his consciousness was sent into the armor he was building. Without a body to come back to, he continued his life as an automaton, continuing his mission: defending his sister. She ran away not too long after, not out of fear, but out of drive and passion. She joined a guild of adventurers, the Gallant Horde, wanting to explore the world or fight monsters or some such nonsense. Nix had no other choice; he followed her and took a job in the guild as well. Someone had to look after her, right ?
Nix had a very socially awkward personality. He was not good with people to begin with, but being stuck in a machine with no facial expression did not help. He tried to use humor as a way to connect with people, but with no facial expression, this often failed, leading to his catchphrase, a clarification to avoid any misunderstanding: "This was a joke". Nix was also terrified of cats, deeming them spawns of the nine hells and evil creatures altogether. Ironically, Dalia's magical cat, Lucky, took an immediate liking to the automaton.
Nix died on his second mission for the Horde, leaving behind his mechanical body, and a vial of blood he kept around his neck : his own.

But the games are only second to his very first love: puns, much to Jax's chagrin.
