Lavore

She/They

Lavore was a wild spirit roaming around freely, content to just exist. Then one day, she felt a tug. This tug led her to a plant that had taken root in a large decorative pot with glowing symbols scattered around it. It felt good to be close to those symbols, and when she finally gave in to that tugging feeling, she was bound to the plant and opened her eyes for the first time as a physical being. The first thing she saw was a kind face and a lot of books. Over her years in this body, she lived mostly in the Magus Gamana. Mother, who was the woman who greeted her originally, was a teacher at this school. While many others took to the arcane arts, Lavore was instead drawn to the mechanical. While at the school, she explored the fascinating relationship between how things work and how they could be recreated. This quickly led to many a small explosion, and maybe a couple of larger ones, as she tried to figure out how she could make things work the way that she saw them working around her. It was a good thing her skin was thick and tough. In this process, she eventually ended up creating a mechanical salamander that she named Tulo. Every morning, students and teachers became accustomed to seeing a mechanical salamander climbing quickly up the steps to the tallest tower, where Lavore would spend her first hours of each day soaking up the fresh rays of the suns on her barky skin. While Mother was alive, Lavore’s life had purpose: studying and doing her best to make Mother proud. But when Mother suddenly got ill and then died, Lavore was no longer sure where she fit into the world around her.

While Lavore has thus far been relatively secluded within the school with Mother, she has learned quite a few different things. One of those things is her ability to speak and understand five different languages. Despite this, however, she hasn’t been able to decipher Mother’s journal since it was written in something other than the five languages that Mother taught her. The journal is the one thing that she took with her when she left the university as it was the one thing that Mother always seemed to have at hand. At night, when things around her become quiet, Lavore likes to pull it out and run her hands across the notes, even if she can’t understand them. Tulo, the salamander, is her best friend, and she has prepared him for their great adventure with a few different tricks up his mechanical sleeves. At only 2 ½ feet tall, Lavore created Tulo so that his 5 foot length would help her move around quicker since she was prone to getting trampled by the younger university students. He’s also able to breathe a bit of fire and launch stones whenever there’s danger.  When she’s not reading or tinkering, she also likes to study cooking, even though she doesn’t need to eat anything very often. She found it fascinating when Mother did it, and has been trying to recreate Mother’s recipe for Golden Burn Buns ever since Mother died. The problem is, Lavore has a terrible sense of taste and very little sense of smell, so there’s no telling if she’ll ever truly recreate those sweet treats.

After Mother’s death, Lavore spent a long time wondering what to do with her existence. She was no longer tied to anyone and lost herself in studying just to pass the time. When she stumbled across something describing leshys, she realized that she was still tied to someone: the druid who brought her spirit into this body. With a renewed sense of purpose, Lavore equipped Tulo with some precautionary tools and the two set out into the world to find her other Mother or Father. However, it didn’t take too long for Lavore to realize that the world was much larger than the map that was pinned to Mother’s wall. She was beginning to lose all hope at ever finding someone that would be able to help her find her person. However, as she made her way further north, she began to hear of a group that had settled in the town of Circle Creek. After carefully observing from the outskirts for a few days, she decided that a group of such…quirky characters might be just what she needed to help her find out more information. Plus, as great as Tulo was, she was beginning to miss the companionship and conversation she’d shared with Mother and thought that the Gallant Horde looked like a place where she might be able to make a friend.

Leslie Arambula

She/Her

Leslie is the ADHD brain in the flesh. She is currently juggling being a mom to three as well as teaching, making TTRPGs, freelance editing, ghostwriting, fiction writing, and more. She recently started her own company Moon Curser Press where she is hoping to rein in all of her different interests. When she has the time, she enjoys video games, drawing anime characters for her kids to color, and, recently, crocheting things with her daughter (all while listening to actual plays in the background).
