K'Rom grew up in Merterra with his mother Brizura, who was an orc. She loved the ocean and the beach, and his memories of her involve walking along the beach looking at shells.
K’Rom remembers she often looked wistfully at the horizon. On one occasion they found a fulgurite together. He later turned it into two linked pendants. One lays with his momma even now and the other he still wears. She’d always liked lightning storms off the coast and said it reminded her of when her baby boy came into her life.
When he was still young, she organised for him to do an apprenticeship with a glass blower, with the idea that he would be something better than she was. He would visit when he could and they sometimes saw each other at the markets.
He worked as a glass-blowing apprentice, for Julio, which he was pretty reasonable at. One day, while working on a particularly tricky job, something went wrong, and in his panic he reached out with something and fixed it. Unknown to him, this was the blossoming of his magic. Also unknown to him, when he did it, his eyes changed to be a bit draconic.
Shortly after this, a sorcerer from Aldercastle, Faelaryn Nahar, saw him working and spotted what was clearly magic. She bought his apprenticeship off the glassblower to take him to Aldercastle to nurture his magic.
He spent six months in Aldercastle, practicing magic and learning that a lot of people are really not very nice there. Aldercastle is a much colder, more ambitious place than Merterra.
Then one day his mentor vanished without a trace. He made some investigations, but could find no sign of her. Eventually, not knowing what else to do, he started back on the road to go home. On a road that took him directly through Circle Creek....
