Elzaren never knew his father, and had only limited contact with his mother, a famous paladin, before she disappeared on one of her “crusades”. His uncle raised him and took control of their noble house. Elzaren and his uncle had a very difficult relationship, but his familial bonds with his two cousins were much closer. His older cousin Ariel had a contentious relationship with Elzaren initially. That changed when Ariel’s younger sister Eleanor grew close to him. The older cousins ended their rivalry and their relationship improved greatly. When Elzaren was endangered by his opposition to a powerful crime syndicate, only his cousins spoke up for him. Their pleas fell on their father’s deaf ears however and Elzaren was cast out of his house for his “reckless” actions.
Elzaren fled his homeland and served on a merchant ship for a few years. He traveled many different shipping routes and traveled to multiple continents. But no matter where he went assassins followed, looking to collect the price on his head. He eventually decided to join an adventurer's guild that was beyond the reach of the bounty. He greatly enjoyed his time with his first guild, but eventually that came to an end. The great wrong the guild had been built to oppose was finally righted, but Elzaren ended up in a vulnerable state.
Elzaren arrives at Circle Creek a humbled man. He fought in the recent fae war and emerged changed. Injured, and weakened, Elzaren is unable to continue serving as he once did with his previous adventuring guild. Since he has nowhere else to turn, Elzaren comes to the new Gallant Horde hoping for a second chance to start life anew. For reasons known only to him, Elzaren has made no effort to return to any of the many places he has lived and worked. His experiences as a diplomat, sailor and adventurer have helped both himself and the Gallant Horde, but they often remind him of what may be forever lost to him.
Elzaren often feels like a fish out of water with the current Gallant Horde. He hails from another world, which seems to make him flat footed in certain social situations. That he is not native to this world is a fact he keeps from his fellow Horde members for a variety of reasons. It bothers him personally to withhold information from his friends but he fears the consequences if it gets out that he is from elsewhere. Information about his origins may also lead to questions he is not ready to face yet. He knows that some members suspect something of his true origins, but he is glad they trust him enough not to press him about such matters.
Elzaren is excited to be part of this Gallant Horde in its early stages. He joined his last guild not long before they ended recruiting new members. He was welcomed, but as a junior member was mostly kept to diplomatic and support roles within the guild. This new guild is his chance to take on more responsibility and make a bigger difference. Thankfully, this Gallant Horde has been just as welcoming as his last guild, and he has been able to make a difference to the people of this land. It is a long way back to where he wants to be, but the Gallant Horde still looks like the right road to get him there.
